Values & Virtues, originally established as The Principled Academy, is a nonprofit organization started in 1973. We provide free, high-quality character education resources for educators and caregivers to use at school and at home.

Our Story
The Principled Academy began in 1973 as a non-sectarian, values-based K–8 school in San Leandro, California. For over 30 years, our curriculum centered on care, respect, compassion, responsibility, fairness, and generosity—values that led to significantly higher academic achievement among our students.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we transitioned from a traditional school to a fully online platform. Today, Values & Virtues offers accessible resources to support moral development at home and in the classroom.

Our Impact
After decades of experience, we’ve seen how essential character education is in helping children thrive—not just academically, but as kind and responsible human beings.

To support teachers and caregivers in this mission, we are continually growing a library of resources, including:

• 200+ stories organized by character virtue
• 100+ hands-on activities to help children learn through doing
• Thoughtful guiding questions for every story
